Chart Feed – 11.10.10

Zoe Badwi’s ‘Freefallin’ has finally cracked the Aussie Top 20 this week, rising to #16! The anthemic dance track is Zoe’s first solo crossover after notching up two #1 positions on the ARIA club charts. TV Rock’s Grant Smillie, who’s also Zoe’s label boss and producer, announced that her next single – ‘Accidents Happen’ – is due soon with an album featuring collaborations with the who’s who of the dance scene. Adam Lambert’s about to drop his first Aussie tour next week and I love how everyone’s already moistening the tips of their guyliners in baited anticipation. The Glam Nation Tour – really, is there any other kind? – will be firing glitter in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Auckland for the rest of the week before pulling up in Melbourne next Tuesday. His first single ‘For Your Entertainment’ has charted at #49 here this week but his label’s pushing ‘Fever’ – the Lady Gaga co-write – to coincide with the tour.

Glee Cast’s vocal-hypnotic cover of ‘Toxic’ debuts at #37 here and #16 in the US, where it was the highest charting new single this week, easily outselling the other Britney covers they were purveying in that episode. While it’s admittedly a decent rendition, I’m still hooked on Artie doing ‘Stronger’. It was just right on so many levels. This week is the Duets episode for our Glee kids – looking forward to Santana and Mercedes raising the roof with ‘River Deep Mountain High’ and a cheese-intensive cover of Jason Mraz/Colbie Caillat’s ‘Lucky’.

Wynter Gordon’s ‘Dirty Talk (Laidback Luke Mix)’ makes its debut at our Aussie club charts this week at #36. Her local label Neon Records has plans to pull the upcoming dance/R&B artiste out here for festivals early next year. Fingers crossed Wynter can move on from ‘Dirty Talk’ and onto something a little more euphoric then. Elsewhere, Miami Horror and Kimbra’s ‘I Look To You’ creeps in at #43 this week.

Sydney indie pop band The Jezabels has the #1 selling physical single in the country this week with ‘Dark Storm’. In the grand scheme of things, the single debuts at #40 on the main charts.

Kylie’s ‘Get Outta My Way’ is the third highest-selling physical single in the country this week. It’s very heartening to see that people are still grabbing CD singles where they can but really, this accolade is not even worthy of golf claps. There’s trouble over in the UK for Min too as ‘Get Outta My Way’ drops from #12 to #31 this week. Jesus wept.

Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow’s ‘Shame’ painfully missed out on a #1 debut in the UK this week. The duet – which is coming off Robbie’s second greatest hits package – only managed to come in at #2 behind Cee-Lo’s ‘Forget You’ (see: clean version of ‘F U’ or ‘Fuck You’). I suggest that we stop mulling over the Robbie & Gary collabos and focus our energy fangurling over the almighty Take That reunion single: ‘The Flood’.

Kelly Rowland’s ‘Forever And A Day’ has broken through in the UK, rising from #103 to #49 this week. I’m sorry but this song does nothing for me. I get that it’s cut from the same template Guetta used for ‘Commander’ but it’s lacking the fierceness I so desperately crave in Kelly’s choons. Elsewhere, Ms Kelly has made an appearance on Tinie Tempah’s album track, ‘Invincible’. The track debuts at #57 this week and I’d be keen to see if this’ll outdo ‘Forever And A Day’.

Tinie Tempah’s Disc-overy album debuts at #1 in the UK this week. We all knew this was inevitable. The electro rap fusion’s still going strong in the market and every single he has dropped so far has gone Top 5. Keep an ear out for the album’s fifth single ‘Wonderman’ featuring Ellie Goulding.

Natalie Imbruglia has come throttling back up the UK charts this week (#71) after One Direction performed ‘Torn’ in the Judges House phase of X Factor. Poor Nat, here she is hosting our X Factor every week and looking fabulous – even in technicolour vomit – and do we send her songs back up the charts? No. Don’t hold your breath for Come To Life to resurrect anytime soon.

Lil Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being debuts at #2 in the US this week. What was initially intended as an appetiser EP leading up to his Carter IV album became a full LP in its own right when the rapper decided to scrap that album and start over. Elsewhere, his rookie Nicki Minaj’s single ‘Right Thru Me’ – hopefully not an ode to laxatives? – debuts at #74 in the US this week. The video was shot in L.A. on 1 October, expect to see results soon.
